Chaska and Victoria, MN Celebrate the Ryder Cup

Golf’s biggest international event, the Ryder Cup, happens next week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in our own Chaska, Minnesota. The 41st Ryder Cup, September 30 – October 2, features 12-member teams representing the United States and Europe in three days of match-play competition. Around 250,000 fans will descend upon Hazeltine for a sporting event that is said to rival the World Cup and the Olympics.

  1. Ryder Cup Grand Opening
    Fans can attend the Ryder Cup Grand Opening without a ticket from September 23-26, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Souvenirs and gift shops will be open to the public. Free parking is available at Lot C off of Pioneer trail (across the street from Chaska High School). Around 1,300 Ryder Cup souvenirs will be available for golf enthusiasts in a 49,000 square-foot football field-sized merchandise tent. For the first time in Ryder Cup history, U.S. team uniforms, designed by Ralph Lauren, will also be sold. About 95 percent of the products offered are exclusive to the 2016 Ryder Cup, and only a few items are available online.
  1. 19th Hole Community Celebration
    In golf, the “19th Hole” is slang for a place, such as a pub or restaurant, to relax and celebrate on or near the golf course. Chaska is hosting a free community event at Firemen’s Park, where revelers can enjoy live music, games, movies and “Ryder Cup Highlights.”Bands that range from Hillbilly Mayhem to the Dweebs will perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights followed by fireworks launched over the Firemen’s Clayhole. On Tuesday from 7 – 9 p.m., the USA Curling Team will compete against Norway at the Chaska Curling Center. Events begin at 4 p.m. September 27 – 29, at 10 a.m. September 30 and October 1, and at 11 a.m. on October 2.
  1. The 18 Holes of Chaska
    As part of the 19th Hole Community Celebration, the 18 Holes of Chaska is a walking scorecard activity for residents and visitors to participate in the Ryder Cup excitement while exploring downtown Chaska businesses and restaurants.By exploring downtown and filling out a scorecard you can enter to win cash prizes. Stop in, look around and have your card stamped or stay to eat, shop and participate in an activity. Download or pick up a walking scorecard at any participating “Hole” location. Visit any 9 “Holes” plus the 19th Hole Community Celebration and enter to win a $250 cash gift card. Visit all 18 “Holes” plus the 19th Hole Community Celebration and enter to win a $750 cash giveaway.
  1. Deer Run Golf Club Events
    Deer Run Golf Club
    is open for public play at normal rates today (Wednesday), Thursday and Saturday. This Sunday, September 25, TwinCitiesGolf.com is hosting two events (2-Person Scramble format) with prizes including Ryder Cup tickets. $39 per person for golf, range and riding cart with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. View details and sign up at TwinCitiesGolf.com. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week, Deer Run will offer a special Ryder Cup rate of $100 that includes golf, cart, and a Ryder Cup hat. Pre-sold passes will be accepted too.     Deer Run Golf Club will be closed next Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (September 28th through October 2nd) due to a private event during the Ryder Cup.

Ryder Cup Traffic Note:  Pioneer Trail will be closed between Hundertmark Road and Chaska High School during the Ryder Cup. Businesses will still be accessible.
