Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Spring Blooms

It’s Bloom Time at the Best Botanical Garden in the US

Chaska’s Minnesota Landscape Arboretum a Great Venue for Outings & Gifts
(Especially for Mother’s Day!)

As you’ve probably already heard, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum was recently named the Best Botanical Garden by USA Today. Second and third place spots are held by the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx and the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.

Chaska’s local treasure, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, encompasses 1,200 acres of gardens, woods and prairies, and features more than 5,000 plant species and varieties. Last fall, 32,000 new early bulbs were planted in groupings throughout the Arboretum that are blooming now. More than 38,000 tulips are just beginning to bloom along with lilacs, crabapple blossoms, wildflowers and more.

An early bloomer – one of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s 38,000 tulips rises above the crowd. Peak bloom usually occurs around Mother’s Day, but may arrive a bit earlier this year.

My favorite features are the Japanese Garden and the ever changing art exhibits both inside and out. A current art experience, “Robert Anderson’s Gardens of Kaleidoscopes,” features a series of 15 interactive garden kaleidoscope installations that allow you to view patterns and intricate prism designs. By turning the container gardens while peering through the kaleidoscope, you can see bursts of changing color patterns and experience an interactive living sculpture. The “scopes” are installed in varying heights to accommodate children and adults. The ingeniously designed , brightly colored sculptural metal frames house container gardens that are changed monthly.
